The Hahnels are Instagram influencers. Shortly after relocating to the US in 2015, they embarked as such on a sponsored 7-month road trip to the National Parks. This book is an attempt to translate their Instagram to print. Like many influencers, their pictures, bright and colorful, are cheery. There are some great shots, well served by the clean design and large reproduction size, however, the choice of a matte paper makes them much duller than on the screen, and washed out compared to other photography books printed on glossy paper.Because the focus of the book is on the "experience", shots frequently include the couple's camper van, the boats and planes they ride, the inevitable views looking out from inside their tent or van, and of course Renee wearing fancy outfits, almost always seen from the back, often in the cliched pose of arms outstretched above her head. For a fun take exposing how all of this is unoriginal, look at the Instagram @insta_repeat.The Grand Canyon, the quintessential natural wonder, is illustrated in four pictures: Renee dangerously - and quite irresponsibly for an influencer - sitting on the edge of the cliff with her feet dangling in the void, Renee seen from the back hiking, a shot from inside their van with blankets framing a sunrise over the Grand Canyon suggesting that one may find such a spot to legally camp on the South Rim when none exists, and finally an unremarkable tight shot of the Grand Canyon that fails to convey its beauty.I enjoyed the accounts of their personal experiences but based on decades of travel to the National Parks, I have to differ from their recommendations. The publisher touts insider tips, but they consist mostly of unexplained selections, and their usefulness is compromised by the author's limited experience in the parks. It takes more than a whirlwind trip by newcomers to find out all they have to offer! Instagram posts are fleeting, I expect more authoritative information from a book.They loved their experience in Virgin Islands National Park, and therefore recommend 3-5 days there, whereas the starker, but much larger and unique Hawaii Volcanoes National Park or Channel Islands National Park with its five diverse wild islands both get only 1-2 days. They recommend 2-3 days for Bryce Canyon National Park which has really only one major attraction, the Bryce Amphitheater, and only 1-2 days for the more vast and resource-rich Canyonlands National Park, which include five districts of which they appear to have visited only one. Several of their "photo tips" mention areas that they have not even personally visited.In a nutshell, if you love the Instagram vibe both in pictures and captions, you'll probably love this book. Otherwise, why bother when for only $15 more you can buy Treasured Lands which is several leagues above in all aspects?

My daughter told us about this book. We love the national parks and have only made a dent in visiting all 59 parks. This book is well organized with key facts about each park, stunning photos, and tips when visiting each park. I highly recommend this book for anyone who is thinking of traveling to the national parks, or for anyone who simply loves a beautiful book to browse through. I also think it's neat that the authors (husband and wife) spent seven months traveling around to all the parks. What an adventure!

I couldn't wait for this book to arrive and when it did I was so blown away! The authors/photographers did an incredible job with the photography and descriptions of each park. Their tips were very helpful and I can't wait to continue exploring the parks!

This book is amazing! Highly recommend it if you are into nature or photography (or both). Those photos look way more stunning in printed book than on internet. Five stars!
